Kamloops Harley Owners Group
PR Information for members for press releases and interviews:
Our Chapter was created in 1988 and at that time we had 45 members. Today, we have over 250 members. We have risen over $761,261 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada, our charity of choice, and our 23rd Annual Poker Run takes place this June 4, 2011. Our 20th Anniversary ride honored Curtis Randall, our long time muscular dystrophy ambassador, who, sadly, passed away April 18, 2009. We design our own T-shirts for our Poker Runs, and last year's was dedicated to Curtis who has been a vital and integral part of our chapter since its inception. He lives on in our hearts.
Here are some points of interest about our Chapter:
We are sponsored by Kamloops Harley Davidson/Buell (Al Perret) and this partnership gives us the support and confidence to take part in and organize many local events.
We currently have another Muscular Dystrophy ambassador, Kyle Lefferson, who, like Curtis, also suffers from Duchene’s MD. Kyle takes part in as many of our activities as school and his health allow.
All funds from our yearly bike raffle are donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada. The proceeds from our local activities, rides, 50/50 draws, etc. are donated to local charities.
Local Charities we have donated to include Royal Inland Hospital, the Women’s Shelter, Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association, the Ashcroft Fire Department, Kamloops Foodbank, Chase Fire and Rescue and many more.
All our fund raising work is on a volunteer basis and we are united by ’a love of riding Harleys, and a desire to put back into local communities.’
Our Chapter consists of members from all walks of life and the only requirement for full membership is one must own a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. We also have Associate memberships, which encourage spouses and family members to take part in our many activities and volunteerism.
***Our first donation, in 1988, had two phases: two Chapter members rode to Vancouver and presented our donations at the MD telethon, while Russ Spooner made another presentation to Jerry Lewis at the telethon in Las Vegas. This archive footage is included on our First Ten Years DVD, which is available for purchase. Again, all monies go back into our communities***
